Bumblefoot all you need to know

Writer: Crazy Bird LadyCrazy Bird Lady

Bumblefoot is a condition of the foot some of the causes are unclean bird perches, inappropriate type of perches, warn down or dry foot pads, cracked or cut foot pads, bad diet and nutrition. Some of the early symptoms of bumblefoot are your bird holding its foot up which looks like it is waving to you, swelling, redness, small blisters. If caught early enough and treated properly there should not be any issues but if left untreated could cause serious infection that could go to the bones and kill your bird. So Today I am going to tell you some home remedies for bumblefoot and what I did when one of my bird had Bumblefoot. First and most importantly clean your bird cage and thoroughly clean the perch and make sure their is no bird poop on them cause if you leave it on their it could cause a bacterial infection and make it worse. Give your bird lots of dark leafy greens which will help give vitamins to your bird it will need while healing. Give your bird a bath its does not have to completely soak the bird just get their feet wet with clean warm water or soak them in some alcohol free toner you could also try decaf (caffeine free) chamomile tea the chamomile will help reduce swelling and infection. Also keep an eye on your birds behavior birds are extremely good at hiding their sick so anything that is not normal for their personality try and figure out what's wrong and if it gets worse go to an Avian Veterinarian.

Note: I am NOT a veterinarian I know all of this through experience and lots of research if you want to read more about bumblefoot I have included a link above about Bumblefoot.

Well Wishes to you and your bird

Sincerely, The Crazy Bird Lady
