Mites and how to get rid of them on your birds

With Birds there is always a surprise factor and sometimes it’s annoying more than bad for example MITES!!!! Imagine little black specs that in a ideal world would be bird dandruff but instead the move and cause irritation. So this is how my week went starting off with Percy not flying, weak, losing feathers, shivering and then consulting the internet with his symptoms narrowing it down to mites and searching natural remedies to treat it. As well as talking to a vet who said its not mites but as i had a feeling it the vet was wrong as all his symptoms pointed to Mites I then decided to go to a good friend who owns a pet store and then confirmed YES IT IS MITES. Then I had a epiphany we had been having issues with Mice coming into the house and leaving their little mouse poo everywhere so I asked her can budgies get Mites from Mice and she said yes. So I did more research as well she recommended a spray that kills Mites and is safe for birds (there is a picture of the spray below) She said when you clean the bird cages spray the tray in their cage then put down the liners you use in the tray and spray the liner as well to spray his perches and to spray Percy as well but you can only spray Percy twice a week. As well keeping the heat up in the bird room and to vacuum more often as heat kills Mites. Also on the days I don’t use the recommended spray in Percy to mix some water, white vinegar and lemon grass essential oil in a spray bottle you can also use Neem, Lavender, Lemon, peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil as well but only a max of 5 drops. Only choose one scent as to many can overwhelm your birds and they are extremely sensitive to scent of any kind. And continue this treatment for 3 to 8 weeks depending on the severity of the Mites. So in-conclusion my week has been quite the overwhelming and annoying but I hope this post helps you and your feathered friend :)
